September is one of the best-kept secrets about Hilton Head Island living. The summer crowds begin to thin, the ocean is still warm from three months of sun, and the island's event calendar fills with some of its most beloved annual gatherings. For year-round residents and those who have discovered the island's off-season character, September is genuinely special.

Upcoming September Events

The 8th Annual Hilton Head Island Shrimp Festival takes place at the Sea Pines Resort on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. — a celebration of the Lowcountry's shrimping heritage with fresh local seafood, community gathering, and the scenic Sea Pines setting.

The Harbour Town Fall Fest on September 13 is the annual fall festival at Harbour Town in Sea Pines, featuring a sidewalk sale, live music, watersports activities, children's activities, classic cars, and more — one of the island's most consistently attended community celebrations as summer turns to fall.

The Hilton Head Island Jam Songwriter Festival runs September 17–20, 2026, bringing the writers behind country and pop music's biggest hits down from Nashville for four days of original music told in the round, up close, and free to anyone on the island. The festival spreads across more than eight iconic Hilton Head venues, drawing 5,000-plus attendees and 40-plus songwriters. Now in its fourth year, it is presented by the Town of Hilton Head Island and has grown into one of the Southeast's most distinctive musical events.

The Hilton Head End of Summer 5K Run and Walk on September 5 starts and finishes at Coligny Beach, welcoming participants of all ages for a scenic race along the island's south-end shoreline. Hiltonheadguestservices

Business Promotions Heading Into Fall

September brings some of the year's best lodging and dining value on Hilton Head Island, as summer-peak pricing gives way to shoulder-season rates. Many island restaurants introduce fall menus in September, and the island's wine bars and casual dining spots offer the most relaxed atmosphere of the year when the summer visitors have gone home.

Community Highlights

September is when Hilton Head Island feels most like home to its year-round residents. The Hilton Head Farmers Market continues Tuesdays at the Coastal Discovery Museum and the Community Market runs Saturdays at Shelter Cove Community Park — both at their best with the island's September pace.
